Because our trip got cut short last time, we decided to go to Mindo again and do all the things we had meant to do. We got there Friday evening (March 13) and checked into the same hostal we stayed in before, Casa de Cecilia. There were three of us from BU, me, Rachel, and Jake, and we met up with a bunch of other international students from USFQ. That night we just hung around the hostel drinking wine and eating cheese we had brought (would have been classy had we not just been ripping the cheese off with our hands and drinking the wine out of the bottle).
The next morning we got up early and started our day by going to a butterfly place called Mariposas de Mindo. It was really cool. It was a good idea to go in the morning because that is when they are most active. We had a good time chasing the butterflies around trying to get them to land on us. Eventually we were successful. We even got to see a butterfly hatch out of its cucoon. Rachel left early to go meet Bailey (another BU person) who was arriving that morning. We had plans to try and meet up again to go zip lining but the phone gods had other plans.
After not being able to find Bailey and Rachel, Jake and I decided to just go zip lining on our own. It was a lot of fun. We were in a group with a bunch of Ecuadorians from Quito and two random Finish guys. Everywhere we go there are a lot of European tourists but almost no American (as in from the US) tourits. It was really pretty and we got some nice views of the trees and valleys. One of my favorite oes was when we did the kangaroo, which means the guides pull up and down on the line making you bounce. (there will be pictures of me zip lining once Jake puts them on facebook)
After zip lining we finally found Bailey and Rachel and grabbed a late lunch. We all went to this little orchid garden and got a tour. It wasn't anything super exciting, but the flowers were cool. That night we were all tired so we hit the hay early.
The next day Jake and I went back to the same place we went hiking last time while Bailey and Rachel went zip lining. Last time after we took the fun cable car across to the hiking trails we took a right and hiked to the one big waterfall but this time we went to the left where ther were a bunch of smaller ones. It was a lot of fun. We got to splash around in the water and even climb up one of the waterfalls. Eventually the path was blocked because a tree had fallen, so we decided we would just make our own path and climb up the river. We basically just walked through the water and scrambled up rocks. It was so much fun and way more exciting than a normal path. I do think the two guys who were clearing away the tree thought we were kind of crazy though.
So concludes my second and final trip to Mindo.
